Miguel Gallardo

(Lerida 1955)

Miguel studied at the Massana School of Arts and Crafts in Barcelona. He started his professional career combining comic (he was one of MAKOKI’s authors, an icon underground character), and illustration, finishing  devoted to the latter. He is a regular contributor in national press such as La Vanguardia and El Público. His illustrations can also be found in different national and international magazines and publications as the Herald Tribune, NYT and the New Yorker.

In 2005, he coauthored along with Angels Ponce a guide on disability for Serres editores “What’s wrong with this child?” In 2007, Astiberri published his graphic novel “MARIA AND I”, that is about the adventures and travels with her daughter Maria, who has autism. In 2008 “MARIA AND I” received the National Prize of the Catalan Government within the comic section.

In 2014, Miguel was awarded the  Grand Prize of Barcelona’s Comic Fair to his artistic trajectory and  professional career.

In 2009, a documentary was produced based on the the book with the same title “MARIA AND I” which has received several awards including:

Award for the Best First Film Festival of Tarragona REC10.

Educactif Award. XI Pamplona Film Festival.

Award for best feature film in the Open Screen New Directors section at the 40th Festival de Alcalá de Henares ALCINE.

“Adapting to a life, a life of cinema” Film Festival II and the Word (CIBRA 2010), November 2010, La Puebla de Montalbán. Award

“Golden Wave” Award International Film on Family CinemaNet.

Nomination to the 2011 Goya Awards for Best Documentary.

Lately, he has been dedicated to teaching based in his communication experience with his daughter, Maria.
